The Butterfly

Many people think of the butterfly as a female tattoo. It is true that many women do get a butterfly. It’s hard to resist the beauty of a butterfly.

If you think about the various stages that it goes through to become a butterfly, it’s very easy to acquaint a butterfly with the stages of life that a woman goes through.

Men go through stages also, but maybe not as obvious of changes, as a woman.

Butterflies really represent spiritual growth and transformation. They do this with grace and beauty. They show balance in life.

Different cultures throughout history have honored the butterfly. Early Japanese warlords and their samurai used a butterfly as their symbol.

In China it is a symbol of bliss and harmony in marriage. Native Americans honor the butterfly as a sign of change, and use it for guidance.

Butterflies remind us of the mystery of life and human nature. Butterfly medicine people are more aware of spiritual growth.

The Roman Emperor Augustus, used the butterfly as his personal symbol. Warriors of the Mexican Popolucas people wore butterflies on their breastplates. The butterfly was also a symbol of fire.

Different cultures in the ancient world associated the butterfly with the soul. Some believed the butterfly carried the soul, escorted the soul in its transistion from life to life.

Some of the attributes associated with the butterfly are, transition, resurrection, time and lightness.
