The Horse

From just looking at a horse it’s easy to see some of their attributes. Strength, endurance and power  are some of the more obvious traits.

Horses are also beautiful, noble and graceful. Going back to the dawn of mankind, the horse has always been a great help to humanity. With patience and kindness, man can make a horse do almost anything that is asked of it.

Many native cultures believe the horse has the power of the Earth and the wisdom of the spirit world. The horse was considered a messenger, bringing man messages from the spirit world.

The wild freedom of the horse must be respected. In so doing the horse will allow the people to use its strength for the benefit of the people.

A black horse is believed to symbolize mystery, night, secrets and death. A white horse represented vitality, resurrection, sun, and birth.

Early man was familiar with the horse. Pictures of horses have been found on cave walls from as far back as 40,000 years. Horses have long been associated with wealth and class. Kings rode horses. Even today having a horse sets you a part from the poorer people.

Most of us have probably heard the stories, or legends about Pegasus, the winged horse that carried the thunder across the skies for Zeus.

Horses are also known for their intelligence and loyalty. A horse knows it’s rider on sight. A horse will mourn the loss of its beloved owner.

Most religions including Christianity and Islamic have revered the horse. The horse is even mentioned in religious texts, including the Bible.

Native Americans were first introduced to the horse by the Spanish invaders. It didn’t take long for them to see that a horse made their lives better. Having a horse meant they could travel, and thus became a sign of wealth.
