Orca (killer-whale)

The killer-whale has been thought to live up to its name, as a killer. At some point in the not to distant past its role changed, and it’s now a favorite mammal. Artists, particularly in the Pacific Northwest find the Orca a favorite for paintings.
Some of the attributes associated with the Orca are,
intelligence, record keeper of all time, kindness, and all aspects of psychic abilities.
Several of the Northwestern Tribes such as the Tlingit, Haida and Nootka consider the killer-whale as their tribal ancestral spirit. They honor its speed and strength as well as it’s ancient knowledge.

There are many great stories about the Orca among different tribes. One such story tells how the killer-whale was once a wolf. As the story goes on the wolf was turned into a whale and remained in the ocean.

This story might be related to the fact that, like the wolf, the Orca lives with their extended family. Killer-whales mate for life as wolves do. They travel together as a herd or pod.

Some other tribes tell stories of how Thunderbird, snatched Orca from the sea, then dropped it back in the ocean with a loud roar. Since that time Orca has been associated with thunder.

Orca is often associated with spiritual birth or rebirth. some tribes believe that the killer-whale is the reincarnation of great chiefs.

Orca is also known for its beauty and power. The song of the killer-whale is so beautiful that all creation will stop to listen to the song.

Coastal tribes found the beauty and ferocity of the killer- whale so great, they took it as their family or tribal symbol. Using it on totem poles as well as on clothing.

Orca medicine people are the keepers of cosmic knowledge, and medicine. They can heal with sound. They are sensitive as well insightful.
